Sarah Norton
Classification: Senior
Major: Intercultural Studies
Hometown: Cleveland, Tennessee
Sarah Norton is a senior majoring in Intercultural
Studies and minoring in Spanish. Originally from North
Dakota, Sarah moved in time to attend high school in
Cleveland before enrolling at Lee.
Sarah is the daughter of Rick and Melinda Norton.
Rick has worked at Lee for nine years in the physical
plant, and Melinda is a 5th grade teacher. Sarah’s two
sisters, Aimee and Rebecca both attended Lee University,
which made the switch from high school to college a
little easier.
Sarah explains that although she was looking into
other Christian, liberal arts campuses, she felt that
“Lee offered more.” And she has been an involved student
from the beginning. She has been a part of Alpha Chi
Honors Society; Sigma Delta Pi, which is the Spanish
honor Society; and Kappa Psi Nu, a social service club
where she held multiple offices throughout her college
experience.
Norton has worked in the Office of Academic Support
since her sophomore year. She feels that this experience
has taught her to be compassionate and helped her to see
how hard many people have to work for what they achieve.
She has also been a peer leader, and is involved with
the family literacy program connected with ESL.
Sarah’s major in intercultural studies took her all
the way to Thailand, where she and two other girls from
Lee lived for two months. Sarah says that while the
country is a beautiful place, the experience still
offered many challenges and opportunities for growth.
When she graduates this December, Sarah would like to
go into the Peace Corps before continuing her education.
She would love to get involved with the UN or some
humanitarian effort abroad.
