Nikeya Williams
Classification: Senior
Major: Journalism
Hometown: Tampa, FL

Nikeya Williams is majoring in Journalism and comes from Tampa, Florida. Her father, Clyde, is a computer programmer and her mother, Janice, is an accounting clerk.

Nikeya heard about Lee University through her youth pastor. At that time she was planning to go into the music program after spending seven years playing the violin. After coming to Lee she went through some self-exploration and fell in love with journalism.

Dr. Laney, the communications department chairperson, offered guidance to Nikeya when she was deciding on journalism, and she had the opportunity to travel to conferences in Atlanta and California with the World Journalism Institute.

While at Lee, Nikeya has been involved in the Student Leadership Council (SLC) where, she explains, this group “gave me the foundation of friendships, it got me involved, and gave me a heart for people and serving.” Nikeya was also on the Lee Clarion Staff, the University’s Newspaper, she was involved in HYPE, a spiritual mentoring program for students in the dormitories, and she was involved with the International Justice Mission (IJM) group on campus, which deals with raising awareness of human trafficking in other countries.

Nikeya is a senior graduating in December of 2007 and after graduation plans to attend graduate school. Nikeya is interested in getting a master’s degree and then pursuing a career as a magazine editor.
