Nikeya Williams

Hometown: Tampa, FL
Nikeya Williams is majoring in Journalism and comes
from Tampa, Florida. Her father, Clyde, is a computer
programmer and her mother, Janice, is an accounting
clerk.
Nikeya heard about Lee University through her youth
pastor. At that time she was planning to go into the
music program after spending seven years playing the
violin. After coming to Lee she went through some
self-exploration and fell in love with journalism.
Dr. Laney, the communications department chairperson,
offered guidance to Nikeya when she was deciding on
journalism, and she had the opportunity to travel to
conferences in Atlanta and California with the World
Journalism Institute.
While at Lee, Nikeya has been involved in the Student
Leadership Council (SLC) where, she explains, this group
“gave me the foundation of friendships, it got me
involved, and gave me a heart for people and serving.”
Nikeya was also on the Lee Clarion Staff, the
University’s Newspaper, she was involved in HYPE, a
spiritual mentoring program for students in the
dormitories, and she was involved with the International
Justice Mission (IJM) group on campus, which deals with
raising awareness of human trafficking in other
countries.
Nikeya is a senior graduating in December of 2007 and
after graduation plans to attend graduate school. Nikeya
is interested in getting a master’s degree and then
pursuing a career as a magazine editor.
