Miles Huff
Classification: Senior
Major: Psychology
Hometown: Harlan, Ky
Miles Huff is a psychology major from Harlan,
Kentucky. Miles is the only child of Rodney and Debbie
Huff. Rodney is a retired coal minor and Debbie is in
customer service banking. Miles explains that his
hometown of Harlan is smaller than Cleveland and it
taught him to “care about people.”
Miles heard about Lee through one of his friends. He
wanted a smaller private Christian School, something
that would emulate the small-town, family atmosphere
that he had come from. Miles explains that Lee is
“comfortable enough to call home, but challenging enough
to find who I am. It is a mix of equilibrium and
disequilibrium.”
While at Lee, Miles has been involved in Psi Chi, the
psychology club and highly involved in the Student
Leadership Council (SLC). He says, “It taught me a lot
about myself and serving others.” Miles has also been a
part of the Greek scene at Lee University. These are
social service clubs that minister to the community and
provide on-campus events. As a member of Theta Delta
Kappa and a big brother for Omega Alpha Phi, Miles
shares that he has learned that “family is not limited
to blood.”
Miles is a senior graduating in May. He then plans to
attend graduate-school. His future ambitions are to
focus academically on male development and to work with
teenage boys in a mentorship role. He plans to target
regions of the country that have not been reached
before. Because although there have been multiple
inner-city mentorship programs, he feels the more rural
areas, specifically regions in Appalachia, have been
overlooked.
