Allyson Foelker
Classification: Junior
Major: Telecommunications
Hometown: Greenburg, WI
Allyson Foelker is majoring in telecommunications and
minoring in business. Allyson comes from Greenburg,
Wisconsin, where she has always lived. Allyson is the
first from her immediate family to go out of state for
school.
She chose Lee University because she said, “it was a
Christian school that was affordable. It was bigger than
other Christian schools I had looked into… Lee is active
and vibrant.” Allyson has a younger brother and a
younger sister, her father is in medical sales and her
mother is a homemaker.
Allyson heard about Lee after a mission trip she had
gone on with her Church. They were attending a service
in Florida where a worship band from Lee was playing.
Allyson had the opportunity to meet the band, and they
caught her interest.
The advice that Allyson would give to anyone coming to
Lee would be to get involved from day one. While at Lee
she has plugged into a variety of campus opportunities.
Allyson has been involved in the Student Leadership
Council (SLC); Starlight Ministries, which is an
outreach program for young girls; A-force, which is a
team of student ambassadors in the admissions office
that provide tours and help for prospective students; a
peer leader, which involves teaching a class to freshmen
assisting a Lee professor, and she has been a member of
Omega Alpha Phi, one of the eight social service clubs
at Lee.
Allyson also had the opportunity to spend a semester
abroad in Cambridge as part of Lee’s cross cultural
experience. Allyson explains that after this trip her
“worldview was changed…it made me break outside the
bubble I was in.”
As a junior at Lee, Allyson has been able to look back
at her Lee experience thus far and says that her first
two years were a time of growth and learning, but she
states that her “core values remain the same.” Allyson
will graduate in December of 2007. After graduation she
would like to do something communications related. She’s
specifically interested in large scale event management.
